IELTS Overview
⭐ There are 2 types of IELTS exams:

  • Academic IELTS is for test takers wishing to study at undergraduate or postgraduate levels, and for those seeking professional registration.
Professional registration typically refers to the formal recognition and licensing of individuals in certain professions, often by a governing body or professional organization. This process ensures that individuals meet specific educational, ethical, and practice standards required to work legally and competently in their respective fields.
Examples include:
  1. Medical Practitioners: Doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals often need to be registered with a medical board or council to practice legally.
  2. Engineers: Many engineering disciplines require registration with a professional engineering body to certify competence and allow the use of certain professional titles (e.g., Professional Engineer or PE).
  3. Architects: Registration with an architectural board or council is often necessary to legally practice and use the title of "architect."
  4. Accountants: Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) and other accounting professionals typically need to be registered with a relevant accounting body.
  5. Lawyers: Legal practitioners usually must be admitted to the bar or a similar legal professional body to practice law.

  • General IELTS is for test takers wishing to migrate to an English-speaking country, and for those wishing to work abroad, or train or study at below degree level

⭐ There is also IELTS UKVI test for those applying the UK Visa. IELTS and IELTS for UKVI are exactly the same test in terms of format, content, scoring and level of difficulty. The only difference is an IELTS for UKVI test is approved by the UK Home Office for work, study and migration purposes and different security measures are applied. Therefore, it’s more expensive.
